Fees and Rebates
How long are sessions?
Each session is approximately 50-60 minutes in duration.
What does it cost to see a Psychologist?
We want to make therapy to be as accessible as possible by keeping our fees as low as we can. The recommended APS rate for a psychologist is $280 (46-60 minute consultation), which we endeavour to keep our fees below.
Sessions with a Clinical Psychologist are $260.00 and the Medicare rebate is $141.85, leaving a gap of $118.15.
Sessions with a Registered Psychologist are $220.00 and the Medicare rebate is $96.65, leaving a gap of $123.35.
Sessions with a Provisional Psychologist are $110.00 for individuals and $180.00 for couples therapy. These reduced rates are offered as Medicare rebates are not available with provisional psychologists. Medicare do not fund couples therapy.
Payments can be made using EFTPOS, cash, or credit card. A cancellation fee $100 is payable if 24 hours of notice is not provided for your session.
You must have a debit card with a pin to receive the Medicare rebate on the spot. You can see more about this on our FAQ page.
Accessing the Medicare Rebate
If your GP has given you a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) you are eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions in each calendar year. See Frequently Asked Questions for more information on Mental Health Care Plans.

Private Health Insurance
Most health funds provide rebates for Psychological sessions, depending on your level of cover. You can contact your private health insurer to find out how much they’ll cover for your sessions. We are able to provide on-the-spot claiming for all major health funds, meaning you’ll only pay the gap at your session.
Can I use both Medicare and a Health Fund?
Unfortunately, that’s not possible under current Medicare and Health Fund rules.
How can I pay for my session?
Excel Psychology has EFTPOS, Medicare and Health Fund claiming facilities, which means you can pay with debit or credit cards and use your Health Fund or Medicare card to pay for your session. You will need a Mental Health Care Plan if you would like to use the Medicare rebate. See our Frequently Asked Questions for more information on Medicare rebates. We also accept cash. There is also an ATM nearby, so if you need to withdraw cash, this is also an option. Cash is not kept on the premises, so exact change is appreciated.
Is Bulk Billing available?
Unfortunately the spaces we have for fully bulk billed sessions are currently full. If you meet the bulk billing criteria listed on our fees page, please call our admin to discuss the potential of a concession rate.
What is a cancellation fee?
Our Psychologists make themselves exclusively available to you for your appointment time. It is important to let us know if your circumstances change and you are unable to attend your appointment. If less than 24 business hours notice is provided, we may charge a cancellation fee of $100. Please note that in line with the requirement of 24 business hours notice, email, voicemail or SMS cancellations left over the weekend when our office is closed will not be accepted. Payment of the cancellation fee will be required prior to booking another session.
Please note, if you are bulk billed, and cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, you may be taken off our bulk billing schedule. This would mean you would be required to pay standard fees for each session.
